I was pretty skeptical but I actually felt like one giant ache walking out of the treatment room that first time and it convinced me that this acupuncture stuff really worked! After a few visits my neck and shoulder pain got better, and with continued treatment so did the chronic headaches that had plagued me for most of my life. When I decided it was time to make a career change from working at the lab, I went to acupuncture school because of the profound change acupuncture had on my quality of life.

At Southwest Acupuncture College I specialized in sports acupuncture, taking classes in orthopedic anatomy, trigger point acupuncture, and sports medicine acupuncture. I completed a clinical internship at the University of Colorado treating collegiate runners, volleyball players, and basketball players as well as other athletes. I also completed three sports medicine specific clinical rotations at the school clinic. The majority of my continuing education has been focused on orthopedic or sports medicine acupuncture including a 3-day seminar on just the neck!

As both an acupuncturist and a scientist, I am constantly educating myself on the latest research and techniques. To that end I have become certified in Functional Movement Techniques including RockTape kinesiology taping, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), and dynamic and static cupping. I am also trained in EXSTORE assessment, motor point acupuncture, trigger point acupuncture (dry needling), acupoint injection therapy, and am certified as a personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise.

I am a Colorado native who loves to dance, knit, make jam, garden, and hang out with my cats and chickens. I have a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences from Colorado State University and taught Western Pathology as an Associate Professor at Southwest Acupuncture College in Boulder. I am a member of the Colorado Acupuncture Medical Reserve Corps, an organization of acupuncturists who volunteer their time and skills during disaster response, critical incidents, and community events. I also work with Healing Warriors where I provide acupuncture to veterans and their families, working primarily on anxiety, PTSD, and chronic pain. I have recently taken a position as a board member for the Acupuncture Association of Colorado.

Erin has been essential in my sports training and regimen over the past year. I decided to sign up for my first marathon in December and knew Erin would be pivotal in my recovery maintenance. I’ve been running for years, but this marathon is going to be on a trail and I’ve never really done any type of trail running. Within my first 3-weeks of training I had severe knee pain due to tight calf muscles. My legs were so angry and Erin is THE reason why I was able to run 14-miles straight this past Sunday. I’ve never been able to run that far due to hip/leg issues.
